oh, hello newsletter I bombastically started during covid and surreptitiously and unceremoniously abandoned like the mutable sign that I am!
I haven’t put enough time and energy into gathering my thoughts… ergo, no newsletter. but then I realised! that was the point! the newsletter was just a wayward lil thing meant for me to softly connect to you, for a brief moment in time, be it over cow print office chairs or the idea of year-round stuffing.
so here we are, yet again, me talking to you about whatever is floating across the proverbial desk in my mind’s eye.
the first topic of discussion?
how roasting your vegetables by putting the sheet tray directly on the bottom of the oven floor (not the broiler) changed my entire life. it literally cut my roast time in half and
in other news,
I met with a colleague and collaborator for coffee today, Erin of Colabo Collective, and we chatted about a great number of things. she’s a new mom of a beautiful lil human named Elliot and just makes new motherhood seem like the coolest adventure. we talked about how it’s okay to cultivate a very cool life that isn’t centered on just being a productive person who works (!) aka not being just a ‘weekend warrior’ but someone who wakes up enveloped by the warm butter bath that is contentment with one’s work and also relationships, friendships, hobbies, and allotment for mucking about. we both agreed that play is important! things don’t always have to be a masterpiece! (as two art school grads, we really struggle with this.) you can have fun and create things for the sake of it– for the pure and unadulterated joy of trying and attempting and venturing and pursuing! remember that, ok?
I’ll start us off with the last thing I just doodled for fun. I’m calling this series ‘BAD ART’ because the only way to protect myself is to make fun of myself first!!!!
cue Emma D’Arcy’s sexy voice saying “a negroni…sbagliato…with prosecco in it.”
*/ completely unprecedented - a new segment where I share something revelatory and also banal at the same time. because I can :)
I was in the car (where all good music is discovered – you can quote me on this.) and a song came on that I *immediately* fell in love with. a tune that pulls you into a late summer evening in the desert: painted skies, dusty air, fading sunlight that feels like a whispered secret you couldn’t quite catch. the voice was vaguely familiar but the song dripped with the uneasy kind of nostalgia you get when you’ve ended up somewhere you hadn’t been before in this lifetime.
lo and behold, it was Harry Styles.
you know, the mega famous pop star with a cunning ability to perform oral on the big screen? I’d never quite been enamoured by his works before, but this one? I got it. I get it now. enjoy for the first time when you’re moving at least 25 mph, trust me.
remember when I captioned this newsletter a rambly one? I wasn’t joking. but I’m coming to a close, I promise. we’ll end with the nose.
because I’ve recently fallen in love with scents again and rediscovered my love for perfume. L got me 2 discovery sets from DS&Durga for our 2 year anniversary and I’ve been spraying, smelling blind, jotting down notes, and then referencing the website notes to see how many I could identify, and then revisiting for the dry down notes and it’s so extra and nerdy but I love it. me and my nose are having fun and there’s nobody that can stop us!
I’ve yet to find a scent as heavenly as le labo’s hinoki body creme which is so effing good I honestly open the jar and straight up huff it at least twice daily. it’s the best thing I’ve ever smelled - dry wood, hints of bright spice, and an open aquatic element that really elevates it. god-tier.
Q: what did you wear as a gawky and awkward teenager? for me, it was davidoff cool water.
little me would spritz it on as I got dressed after gym and just feel like the epitome of a Classy Lady™️.
her, you guys. Her. that’s how powerful scents and imagination are. HER.
welp, until next time, my sweet apple tarts!
(but forreal it might be three days or three years until you hear from me again, it just do be like that sometimes. did you like what you read? TELL ME BECAUSE CREATIVE TYPES FEAST ON FEEDBACK OK BYE.)
I am currently on the hunt for a perfume which is tricky because most scents give me a horrible headache which means I’m searching for a perfume while maintaining a 20 foot distance from the perfume counters which basically means my hunt so far has been....unsuccessful. But I am so enchanted by the idea of having a personal scent and after I finish this run on sentence I will be googling “discovery set” which sounds brilliant. And also the body crème you mentioned! 🤞🏼
I’m screaming!!! When this landed in my inbox I had to do a double take. Unannounced and very Beyoncé like. I wasn’t ready, but I’m glad you’re here. Best believe I paused my reading to turn on Harry styles before continuing lol
That was so enjoyable that I wished it was longer! ❤️🔥✨
